january ~
The month of January is a very pleasant month, though incredibly busy. School pores over new assignments, correcting and pushing forward. People rush among the pavements; a blend of flashing colors and paces. The very essence of Singapore pulses with purpose, the city nestling within the new year, exchanging resolutions and discovering new crinkles of life.
Though there is plenty of work to do I find so many fascinating ideas present themselves to me. The ideas of hope and despair, ideas of peace and ideas for furthering my writing. There is much to write about, many stories to pen and create. A new year of lovingly whispered words and miraculous moments. Another empty book to breathe life into–to shape it with pain, hope, sadness, joy and emotion. To crinkle it's pages and to highlight its wonders.
My book will be a mix of these emotions, of flaws and good times and happiness. Of pain and joy. Of startling clarity but also murkiness. I wonder which revelations pounce on me this year; I hope they will be surprising but equally satisfying.
Speaking of books, I have begun reading three books–What is the What by Dave Eggers, 30 Second Psychology by Christian Jarrett and The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier.
What is the What is very thought provoking book. I have decided to read one chapter a day, rather than my usual devouring of a book in a single day. Though I must cling to self restraint when I reach the end of the chapter, this wonderful book is doubly satisfying. I think I will write a review on it after I am finished reading it.
The Chocolate War is a book I am reading for English Class. It was assigned to us by my teacher and is turning out to be an interesting book. I am enjoying it so far–there seems to be themes of power, politics and the toying of the idea of routine in this book. The characters are interesting and flawed, which is always a bonus. My favorite is Archie so far–he seems to consider the world a chess game, a battle of wits and surrounds himself with a barrier of cutting knowledge. However there seems to be a vulnerability to The Assigner which makes him human and all the more appealing.
Overall, the month should be ripe with wonder, with achievements and with wonderful moments.
